Lessons learned: South-North partnerships in an agri-food system research programme

The GCRF AFRICAP programme is coming to an end in March 2022. Helen Coskeran who worked as programme support officer from 2018 to 2020 before taking over as programme manager reflects on what she has learnt during this process.

AFRICAP is the largest GCRF grant led by the University of Leeds. Even for an institution as big as Leeds, developing and effectively managing relationships with a large array of international partners has been a learning curve. In this blog, published by Leeds’ Global Food and Environment Institute, Helen talks about the importance of building research capacity at an individual and institutional level, the value of face-to-face interactions, challenges posed by COVID and the need to think about programme legacy, so that knowledge is preserved and shared beyond the project’s lifetime.
